BEARS ELECTRIFIED BY LIGHTNING

On a very nice Saturday where temperatures were in the mid 80's the South Texas Lightning had the Bears running for the trees as all three teams tamed the Bears on their home turf.

It started with the Tiny Mites, as they have done all year long and scored on their opening possession, and the next after that, the next after that, so on and so forth.  The defense is very stingy by allowing only one touchdown during the day.

The Jr Pee Wee had an easy time as they continue to improve and get stronger each week.  These were caged bears as the Lightning stayed undefeated with a 38-0 rout.

In the third game the Pee Wee team jumped out to a 19-0 half time lead only to see their lead dwindle with two back to back on side kicks that were recovered by the Bears.  Within the first two minutes of the third quarter the score was 19-12.

On the next possession the lightning had a nice drive and scored to make it 25-12. The Bears did not have an answer on their next possession and gave the ball back to the Lightning.  The Lightning got into the end zone again before the quarter ended to make the score 32-12 as the teams traded sides going into the forth quarter.

The Bears got on the board in the forth with a nice double reverse pass that got them to the three yard line and they scored on the next play. Score 32-18.

That was the last time the Bears would score as the Lightning added another touch down to make the final 38-18.

LIGHTNING: STRONG SHOWING WITH HORNETS

With the undefeated Lightning teams hosting Corpus Christi Hornets the Lightnings stood up to the challenges as they played their first of two out of division games.

The Tiny Mites had their first battle and test of the season as both teams traded two touchdowns in the first half only to see the Lightning finish strong in the second half.  The Lightning came out strong as they put up two more touchdowns in a lopsided second half.

Our Mitey Mites played a had fought game and came away with a tie.  Both teams battled and played excellent defense.  The Lightning scored on two up the middle runs that covered over sixty yards each time as the Hornets were determined to keep us from running to the outside.

In a very hotly contested game the Jr Pee Wee took their three game winning streak and put it on the line.  By the end of the third quarter the Lightning found themselves behind by a score of 20-6.

But, that is when they played their best football of the day and scored fourteen unanswered points to tie the score at twenty a peice at the end of regulation.

Although, there is no overtime in regular season games it was decided to play.  During the overtime both teams start at the twenty-five yard line.  The Hornets were able to score as the Lightning fell inches short.

In the final game of the day the we saw that Lightning stings more then Hornets.  For the forth game in a row the Lightning Pee Wee team had the mercy rule going within the first few minutes of the third quarter in a 39-0 victory.

Next week the Lightning will be traveling to Corpus Christi.

LIGHTNING TAME THE WOLFPACK

Another blistering day, but as the heat continues to crank up so do the Lightning as they whipped the Wolfpack into submission.

Once again the Tiny Mites started the day off by out cunning the Pack.  With a defense that has not allowed an opponent into the end zone and a offense that has too many weapons for teams to handle it is obvious why this team is so dominant.

In the most entertaining game of the day the Mitey Mites came out with improved vigor.  With the scored tied at seven the Mitey Mites scored with just seconds remaining on the clock to take a one touchdown lead.  After a lightning time out the Wolfpack lined up and ran to the left side of the field and scored with no time remaining on the clock.  It was a great effort by both teams.

The Jr Pee Wee team has continued to improve and improve they have.  At 3-0 they have positioned themselves as the team to beat in their division.  They have a very strong defense and the offense controls the outcome of the game.  The mercy rule was in effect as they put up 28 points to keep the clock running.  Final score 35-7

The Pee Wee team flexed their muscle for the third straight game in a 41-7 thrashing of the Wolfpack.  The outcome of the game was determined from the opening kickoff as the Lightning returned it for a touchdown.  The defense dominated with crushing hits and take-aways.  The only score for the Wolfpack came on a kickoff return in the second quarter with the Lightning up 27-0.

In the second half the Lightning put the game away with two scores and the game was under a mercy ruling for the third straight week.
