LIGHTNING: STRONG SHOWING WITH HORNETS
With the undefeated Lightning teams hosting Corpus Christi Hornets the Lightnings stood up to the challenges as they played their first of two out of division games.
The Tiny Mites had their first battle and test of the season as both teams traded two touchdowns in the first half only to see the Lightning finish strong in the second half. The Lightning came out strong as they put up two more touchdowns in a lopsided second half.
Our Mitey Mites played a had fought game and came away with a tie. Both teams battled and played excellent defense. The Lightning scored on two up the middle runs that covered over sixty yards each time as the Hornets were determined to keep us from running to the outside.
In a very hotly contested game the Jr Pee Wee took their three game winning streak and put it on the line. By the end of the third quarter the Lightning found themselves behind by a score of 20-6.
But, that is when they played their best football of the day and scored fourteen unanswered points to tie the score at twenty a peice at the end of regulation.
Although, there is no overtime in regular season games it was decided to play. During the overtime both teams start at the twenty-five yard line. The Hornets were able to score as the Lightning fell inches short.
In the final game of the day the we saw that Lightning stings more then Hornets. For the forth game in a row the Lightning Pee Wee team had the mercy rule going within the first few minutes of the third quarter in a 39-0 victory.
Next week the Lightning will be traveling to Corpus Christi. |
